Are you passionate about the impact early intervention can have in children’s lives?As the Partner in the Community for the NDIA’s Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) service across Logan/ Beenleigh/ Redlands, Brisbane and the Moreton Bay region (Caboolture/ Strathpine), The Benevolent Society is excited to be recruiting additional Occupational Therapists to the team.Terms: 12 month maximum term contracts; Full Time hoursThe Opportunity:The ECEI approach supports families to help children, aged 0-6 who have a developmental delay or disability, to develop the skills they need to take part in daily activities and achieve the best possible outcomes throughout their life. The Benevolent Society’s ECEI teams will provide a family centred approach that supports greater inclusion in mainstream settings and builds the capacity of a child and their family.You will work within a trans-disciplinary team to meet with families and gather information on their child’s development, and the parents’ goals for their child. You will then use the information you have gathered, as well as any other available information such as Allied Health Professionals’ reports, to craft a report that details the supports or equipment required by that child and their family through the NDIS.You will report to a Team Leader, and work alongside other professionals, such as Speech Pathologists, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers and Early Childhood Teachers, to determine the best pathway for children with a development delay and/or disability and their families, which may include seeking to gain access to the NDIS.The WorkReport writing will make up about 50% of your work, so being a good written communicator, enjoying writing reports and being very comfortable using technology are essential for enjoying this role.Having an aptitude for interpretation of legislation will also be very helpful to you in this role – but don’t worry, we have Senior Practitioners and a Workplace Trainer who can support you to interpret and apply the legislation. A large portion of your week will be spent travelling to, meeting with families – so enjoying variety, interacting with different people and getting out and about is also important.As well as the important planning work with families, you will also have the opportunity to deliver short to medium term therapeutic interventions in group settings.As an evolving scheme, the NDIS environment can be quite dynamic, so an openness and resilience to change will set you up for success in this role.These roles represent a unique opportunity to have a genuine impact on the lives of the children and families you will work with.Your experience:Degree in Occupational TherapyEligibility for membership as an Occupational Therapist with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulations Agency (AHPRA)Previous experience working with children, adults and parents/care givers where the children and/or young people have complex needsGood understanding of early intervention principles and experience of applying these in group settings.Ability to apply evidence informed practice to optimise outcomesExperience working with and supporting vulnerable children and their families to realise positive change and developing individual early intervention plans in consultation with them.Great written communication skills and an aptitude for report writingGreat interpersonal communication skills and the ability to quickly develop rapport with children and their families.Excellent time management skillsAn aptitude for developing an understanding of NDIS legislationA current driver’s license and eligibility for a Blue CardYour benefitsWe support you to work flexiblyWe set you up for success with a buddy, structured orientation & mobile toolsWe celebrate the best life moments; the small acts that make a difference within our teams and with our clientsThe option to purchase additional leaveSalary packaging, meals & entertainment card, employee discount, novated leases availableAccess to pool carsInterested?
